List of All Hanoi Hotels
Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, is a fascinating blend of East and West with Chinese influence from centuries of dominance and French design from its colonial past. With its broad boulevards and a French-inspired architecture, the city has a noticeable structural charm. Tourists in Vietnam also flock to Hanoi to see its unique depiction of traditional Asian culture. The historical values of the city are present in the temples and monuments of the Old Quarter, a 36-street shopping paradise. It still retains buildings from the eleventh-century court of its founding father King Ly Thai To, most notably the Temple of Literature, and some of the streets in the Old Quarter still trade in the same speciality goods they dealt in 500 years ago.
Whether you are interested in ancient literature and art or just want to browse the various shops around town, there is always something to see in Hanoi. It is one of the most beautiful of the colonial Indochinese cities and often the start or end point of a trip to Vietnam. There are a number of lovely parks and museums where you can while away the hours on a warm summer's afternoon. Hoan Kiem Lake is a pleasant park in the centre of town within easy walking distance from anywhere in the Old Quarter. It is a favourite leisure spot for locals and a great place to watch early-morning tai chi or sit and read in the afternoon. There are also hundreds, if not thousands, of restaurants catering to everyone's taste.
Unfortunately, since the advent of tourism in 1993, the city has seen an explosion in travellers' cafés, mini-hotels and cybercafés. Indeed, Hang Bac, one of the Old Quarter's main drags, is now home to a large number of traveller hangouts and is starting to resemble a little piece of Bangkok's Khao San Road. For the time being, however, Hanoi remains relatively untouched, laid-back and hastle free.
