Perth Overview
Boasting 300 days of sunshine a year, Perth is often referred to as "the sunniest city in Australia" while its location has also earned it the title “the most isolated city on earth”. Located in the south west area region of the vast state of Western Australia, the city is situated on the Swan River, with the suburbs sprawling out in a north-south direction and east to the Darling Ranges. The many uncrowded beaches along the Perth coastline also help define the lifestyle; Perth is laid-back, quiet and safe.
Today the city is characterised by numerous waterways, green parks and a compact central business district. There is plenty to occupy visitors in Perth, from touring the city by tram or bus, enjoying watersports on the Swan River or just sipping a glass of the famous local wine in a riverside or beachside restaurant.
With the sun always shining, white sandy beaches and a cosmopolitan atmosphere, there is always something to see and do in Perth. Get away from it all at Rottnest Island, the home of the Quokka, or head down to Fremantle, a town rich in marine history with over 150 buildings classified by the National Trust. The Avon Valley is home to a spectacular variety of water fowl and to the north of Perth, the coastline boasts some of the most popular recreation areas in Western Australia with excellent snorkelling, fishing and surfing. You can trek the outback, fish for marlin, swim with whales, enjoy some of the best surfing in the world, prospect for gold at Kalgoorlie and explore the huge forests. Perth is also a wonderful place for animal lovers. In addition to the small but charming Perth Zoo, a hands on experience is Caversham Wildlife Park, where one can have a one-on-one experience with a variety of birds, kangaroos, koalas amongst others.
Wine, challenging surf, limestone caves, spectacular coastline, magnificent forests and golden beaches are just some of the attractions waiting for you in Perth; a breathtaking coastal destination on the poetically named Swan River. Space, ocean-views, soft beaches and gourmet restaurants make Perth a favourite getaway for travellers and a visit to this area is a must.
