TRAVEL GUIDE

Hobart is Tasmania's capital city and the second oldest city in Australia after Sydney. Spread over seven hills between the banks of the Derwent River and the summit of Mount Wellington, Hobart’s incredible waterfront location has earned it the reputation of being one of the world’s most picturesque cities. The towering silhouette of Mount Wellington, often snowcapped in winter, dominates the skyline. Well-preserved bushland reaches close to the city’s heart and white sand beaches fringe its southern shores.

Although it is a small city, the town’s rich colonial heritage and natural charms are accented by a spirited, rootsy atmosphere. A city of contrasts, and Australia's smallest and most southerly city, Hobart offers sophisticated nightlife and World Heritage wilderness within a geographically compact area. Settled by the British in 1803, Hobart's convict heritage remains evident in the architecture, with many unspoiled Georgian and Victorian buildings. Visitors will enjoy browsing the markets and art galleries along the waterfront, the cosmopolitan dining of North Hobart, and the historic charm of Battery Point.  Hobart is also a good base from which to explore the rest of the island, particularly expeditions to the rugged South-West. It is also the gateway to the highlands and alpine lakes of the north and the stunning beaches to the east.

198km North of Hobart lies Australia's third oldest city after Sydney and Hobart; Launceston. Situated at the head of the Tamar River, 50km inland from the state's north coast, and surrounded by delightful undulating farmland, Launceston is a pleasant city, crammed with elegant Victorian and Georgian architecture and plenty of remnants of convict days. The many well-established public parks and beautiful private gardens have given Launceston the name ‘The Garden City’. It also has one of the best regional galleries in Australia, the Queen Victoria Museum and is renowned for its art and craft galleries and restaurants. Like many other parts of Australia, Launceston is a great place to visit for outdoor lovers. There are plenty of activities and leisure options available from gentle walks in the local parks to mountain biking and hang gliding.

Launceston is an ideal base to explore the many natural, scenic, creative and historic attractions of the Tamar Valley, which is a ‘sensational’ place to visit - for a short break or a major holiday. A wine lover’s and foodie’s paradise, Launceston Tamar Valley is made for losing yourself - in exploration, romance and adventure.

 Hotel Reviews
Fukuoka Okura Hotel
Fukuoka Hotels

"Rooms were clean and comfortable and is beautiful. The bathroom was comfortable promoting. There is good atmosphere and interior. I felt smaller than I expected".

Paris Altona Hotel
Paris Hotels

We read the reviews right before we arrived and were terrified ourselves. Once we got there the two brothers in Reception were very friendly, the room itself was small (as to be expected for our cheap price), but it was clean, safe and comfortable. Each day it was cleaned, there wasn||t any thievery, the staff was exceptionally friendly, even the night staff were very welcoming. The neighbourhood is not bad at all, we walked the streets at midnight and were completely safe. The brothers (owners) are trying very hard to make the hotel the best they can, when we were there they just installed new plasma tvs in each room. Its what you expect from a 2 star hotel, probably more 3 stars. We were in room 66 and slept very comfortable.

Sihanoukville Golden Sand Hotel
Sihanoukville Hotels

"Our room at Golden Sand Hotel was spacious with basic furniture and a clean toilet. We only stayed there for 1 night but the staff were very warm and friendly and even helped us with finding another Hotel in Phnom Penh. For a budget hotel and breakfast included you can’t go wrong".
